Humans are known to have atleast seven similar faces in the world. Personally I haven’t seen an evidence for that but yes I have come across many super identical twins and I am sure so have you. But have you ever noticed animals and their twins. Probably not because most of the mammals actually give birth to more than one baby and then as they grow, most look more or less the same. However here is one very interesting aspect of the similar faces in two different animals that somehow share same family traits , look identical but are yet different . Doesn’t make sense? Mice and Bat

Both thee mammals bear no resemblance in their family line however look pretty same as you may notice here. While mice are small and swift land creatures that bite off your goodies and empty your food stores, bats are flying mammals that cling onto the roofs and trees and will never invade your boundaries. But even with their dissimilar characteristics, bats appear to be winged twins of mice. These mice looking bats with their eras especially matching that of a mice are also known as mouse eared bats.

Squirrels and Flying squirrels

These belong to the same family of rodents but different tribe of squirrels. The flying squirrels are not capable of having sustained flights, instead they glide between trees upto 90 meters. Their wings are actually a furry parachute-like membrane that stretches from wrist to ankle.

Lizards and Flying lizard

Lizards are reptiles that spend their lives crawling on earth and trees. However the flying lizard is a type of gliding agamid lizard from Southeast Asia that has scaly membrane between the forelegs and hindlegs that enable it to glide from one tree to another to as far as 60m. What is interesting is that it only comes to ground when a female is ready to lay her eggs. It places the eggs in a small hole dug by burying its head into the soil, guards them for 24 hours and then leaves them to never return back again.

Fish and Flying fish

We all know about the fishes and their marine lives but the flying fish has a life above the waters as well. Not that they can soar high and fly distances but these species of oceanic fishes of the family Exocoetidae carry special pectoral fins that help them to glide above the water quite near to the surface though , covering atleast 400m of distance.

Wars of the tribes

In the pictures you will see a war going on between two tribes of Africa, the Kalenjin and Kisii. This happened in Olmelil in Kenya and about 20 people were reported to be killed during the fight. Both the tribes were fighting for land. It is hard to believe that such wars still happen and you probably would have thought that it is staged if not for the picture of the injured tribe member. You can see the anger and the determination on their faces as they fight to win.

Even though you see them using the primitive weapons like arrows, knives and throwing stones, it is surprising to see that one of them is wearing a modern watch. You will also see one of the injured members of the tribes with an arrowhead stuck in his face which shows that the arrows do their job.

Food can fall from the sky

In the picture you will see a picture that is obviously difficult to get. Here the eagle is hunting a flock of bats. It is a great picture where the eagle is frozen in time exactly when it is about to grab hold of its meal. Its wing span shows how big a bird it is and how powerful it can be.

The bats come out in large numbers for a lot of reasons and it is usually for feeding. Flying ants can be one of the reasons the bats are circling in any place. Their large numbers make them a easy target and predatory birds like the eagle in the picture will take full advantage of this. The flock in the picture has at least a hundred bats and are probably looking for a meal unaware that they could be one.

Wonders Of The Sea

Deep sea never fails to fascinate us with its natural beauty. Photographs from the sea show us things we would probably not see in our lifetime. In the pictures, the shoals of fish look breathtaking as you can almost feel them move even though it’s a picture. The shoals can vary in size depending on the population of that species in the area. The shoal can also be made of mixed species of fish which are of similar sizes and move alike.

The shoals of different fish look different and whenever there is a predator around, the formations break and reform which can look wonderful as well. When underwater, shoals moving overhead will feel like a dark cloud moving in the sky. Moving in shoals gives the fish better chances of escaping from a predator and higher foraging success and hence a fish will choose shoals with fish similar to it.

Unusual spiny animals

Some animals have developed a form of armor called spine – which is a hard, thorny or needle-like structure which grow as a self-defense mechanism.

Egyptian sea star

They can be found to depths of 20,000 feet and the majority of starfishes, now more properly referred to as sea stars, are carnivorous or omnivorous and can eat small fishes, algae, mollusks and coral polyps. In fact, they don’t have to fit their prey into their mouth, as they are capable of expelling their stomach and digesting whatever they are resting upon, such as what the Crown-of-Thorns does to coral polyps.

Matha’s sea urchin

The rock boring urchin, Echinometra mathaei, has a dark, oval shell and sturdy spines in a range of colours from white to pink or olive green. Echinometra mathaei is found in holes and under rocks.

Spiny orb weavers

If that last spider was oddly shaped, then this one is even more so. It belongs to a family of spiders called “spiny orb weavers” (the genus Gasteracantha) which rely on their unwieldy shapes and hard spikes to make themselves a difficult, and potentially even painful, object to swallow. There are many critters that mimic their warningly colored relatives; if the mimic is itself distasteful or poisonous then it’s called a Mullerian mimic, but if it’s only pretending to be toxic then it’s a Batesian mimic.

Spiny oakworm moth caterpillar

Spiny oakworm larvae are aggressive feeders, and generally consume all but stubs of midrib and large veins of leaves. Early stage larvae have cream-white bodies, black heads, and a pair of conspicuous black spines on the second segment of the thorax; these spines are characteristic of the genus. As larvae grow, body color changes. Spiracles are black, and each is enclosed by a white margin. The full-grown caterpillar is 45-55 mm. long.

Pufferfish

Biologists think pufferfish, also known as blowfish, developed their famous “inflatability” because their slow, somewhat clumsy swimming style makes them vulnerable to predators. In lieu of escape, pufferfish use their highly elastic stomachs and the ability to quickly ingest huge amounts of water (and even air when necessary) to turn themselves into a virtually inedible ball several times their normal size. Some species also have spines on their skin to make them even less palatable.

Horseshoe crabs

Horseshoe crabs are one of the oldest animals on earth. Although they look scary, there is absolutely nothing on their bodies that can hurt us — they do not have teeth, their claws are weak, and their tail is not poisonous or spiky.

Spiky Echidna

Echidnas are small mammals that are covered with coarse hair and spines. Echidnas, also known as spiny anteaters, belong to the family Tachyglossidae in the monotreme order of egg-laying mammals. Although their diet consists largely of ants and termites, they are only distantly related to the true anteaters of the Americas. The echidnas are named after a monster in ancient Greek mythology.

Thorny Devil

An amazing Australian reptile quite evidently owes its name to the thorns on its body. The mini dragon grows up to 20 cm (8 in) in length and can live up to 20 years. It can camouflage according to the desert shades and its thorny scales are a defense against predators. The small thorny devil can eat some thousands of ants in one day.

Who says coasters have to be flat and boring? In the pictures, you will see coasters that will impress everybody who comes to your house. The glasses are given a man touch by making them see human- like. Some of them are also designed to hold the bottle along with glasses. This way, you won’t even need a tray to carry them around. You can combine them with the lamp which has the same feel too.

The coasters are obviously heavy and you don’t have to worry about your glass tipping over and crashing on the floor as they are pretty well designed. There are similar stands to hold your salt and pepper shakers. You can buy a set for holding bottles, glasses, shakers, etc. so that the dining table will look complete. There is also one where the coaster holds a glass and acts as a candle stand as well.

The Not- So- Fortunate Children

Pictures of children in distress always make you want to do something to make them feel better or change their life in some way. If you read a magazine when there is a terror strike or an earthquake, you will see a lot of pictures of crying and dying children which can make you sick to the stomach. The innocence in the eyes of children who lead a life collecting rags makes most people want to make a difference.

Especially during war, the children are always the worst hit. Losing parents having to raise siblings younger than them, etc. makes children grow up sooner than they should. It makes you wonder why the innocent children should pay because countries hate each other. Caught in the cross fire, there is nothing these innocents can do but hope for a better future.

Weird creature measured 6ft long

A mysterious creature horrified holidaymakers after it washed up on a beach on the Gower Peninsula in Wales. The writhing mass of tentacles, which measured at least 6ft from end to end. The barnacles – long writhing stalks or pendulates, tipped with shells – are normally found deep below the waves, but were washed up clinging to a log. This barnacle may look like a mollusc but it is in fact a crustacean related to shrimps, lobsters and crabs. The goose barnacle or percebe thrives at the ocean’s foamy edge. Slammed by boiling sea waves, laved in saline by constant saltwater surf, the percebe thrives clinging to wave-lashed crags of the sea, to coastal rocks in narrow inlets called ‘surge channels’ up which the ocean thrusts oxygen-rich waves tumbling and roiling to wash over the barnacle colonies, thus providing tiny planktonic food to be caught by the winnowing fan-like legs poking out and up from the barnacle. Barnacles attach themselves to rocks by their “heads” and feed by means of their feathery “legs.”

Building a house from matches

Do you want to learn how to build a house from matches? It would be built without a drop of a glue, and you won’t need those tools in order to build a house. But what do you need is:
1. A few boxes of matches, around 6-7
2. CD case, it would be used as a desk, that can be rotated as you like
3. A coin, not a little one.

Place a CD box on the desk and we’ll start the process.
Put two matches, parallel each other, in the distance a little smaller than a length of a match. Now put 8 more matches on top of the first two, like on the picture.

Now put a second flooring of 8 matches, perpendicular to the previous layer. It’s better to put all the matches on an equal distance from each other.

Now we are building a “well”, 8 layers tall, like on the picture. Each next match should be aligned with a head perpendicular to the previous.

And now on the top of this well we are putting another deck of 8 matches. Matches on the top deck should be aligned contrary to the lower one.

Now on the top of our thing we are putting a coin.

Now pressing on the coin with one finger, insert a match in each corner, as shown on the picture below.

If there is no space between lower matches you can slightly spread them with another match, as shown on the photo. But be carefully so that a “house” won’t slide from the lower deck of matches.

After you have inserted 4 matches in the corners you should have something like this:

Now carefully inserting matches between the corner ones, across the perimeter, sliding apart the matches with another match, and pressing with a finger on the coin.

And now after all the matches inserted, press on the wall of the house with your fingers, and remove a coin from the top with another match. Like on the picture.

Now you can take the house in hands. Now push these last matches on the top even more further so that they press the deck under them. Like on those two pictures.

We have just finished making a foundation for the house, yes we were building a house from the top, now turn in it upside down and put it on its foundation, those heads we inserted before. Like on this picture:

Now let’s build the walls. They would consist from two layers of the matches: one vertical and one horizontal. Insert vertical layer from one side of the house. Do same thing from three other sides. Now put the horizontal layer of the wall to all four sides. Each next match should go contrary against the previous, like “head to the right, head to the left”.

Now we are putting the matches on the “roof”, perpendicular to the upper deck. First 2 matches, then 4, then 6 and in two middle rows put 8 matches, like on these pictures:

Now between the vertical matches insert sloping matches, heads to middle, like on the picture:

Congratulations! That’s all! Your house is ready now! You can decorate it with a chimney – insert four matches in the roof near each other, or you can add a door and a window – break a few matches by half and insert into the wall pointing the contour of the door or window.
