Weird creature measured 6ft long
February 6, 2010 by admin · 55 Comments
A mysterious creature horrified holidaymakers after it washed up on a beach on the Gower Peninsula in Wales. The writhing mass of tentacles, which measured at least 6ft from end to end. The barnacles – long writhing stalks or pendulates, tipped with shells – are normally found deep below the waves, but were washed up clinging to a log. This barnacle may look like a mollusc but it is in fact a crustacean related to shrimps, lobsters and crabs. The goose barnacle or percebe thrives at the ocean’s foamy edge. Slammed by boiling sea waves, laved in saline by constant saltwater surf, the percebe thrives clinging to wave-lashed crags of the sea, to coastal rocks in narrow inlets called ‘surge channels’ up which the ocean thrusts oxygen-rich waves tumbling and roiling to wash over the barnacle colonies, thus providing tiny planktonic food to be caught by the winnowing fan-like legs poking out and up from the barnacle. Barnacles attach themselves to rocks by their “heads” and feed by means of their feathery “legs.”

“..This barnacle may look like a mollusc but it is in fact a crustacean related to shrimps, lobsters and crabs.”

To all you people saying ‘it’s not real’ it’s Gooseneck Barnacles…. NO SHIT, if you took 30 seconds to read the article you would see it says that…
ehehe if something like that ended up in a beach here in Portugal, you know what would happen to that? we’d eat it all

I think I saw a tiny Japanese girl in there . . .
I swear this exact same log washed up on Polzeath beach in Cornwall, feasable as its just across the water. I have photos ill add. Worst thing about this was the intense smell of salty rotting fishy flesh
Um, if y’all read the article, it clearly states that the pictures are of a log encrusted in barnacles.
You got to be too mutch stupid to believe that’s a creature, monster or whatever.
It’s just a colony of this creature here:
http://www.wallawalla.edu/academics/departments/biology/rosario/inverts/Arthropoda/Crustacea/Maxillopoda/Cirripedia/Lepas_anatifera.html
Ask a biologist about these kind of things before you panic
This creature is a freak… Kill it people..
This apparent creature seem to be a community of worms from the mid atlantic rift – the type that feed from the chemicals from volcanic vents. But I’m no expert.
what is name of this creature.is it alive now ?
Jeroen is right. it’s a colony of goose barnacles that has broken free of it’s moorings and floated to the surface. Not one thing, hundreds.
Take this thing for movie Alien 5!
i got goose bumps!…haha that’s why it calls goose barnacles…really cant believe on these…its like a million worms gathering on somewhere…with a saltwater mussel on the tip…it’s amazing but frightens my whole body!…think i need a research on this!

For those who take 30 sec to read the article, it says “it’s a log full of small animals called barnacles” but still you people go all out “KILL IT!! IT’S SATAN’S POO COMING TO EAT US ALL!!!!”
